Volunteering with Texas Yes Project
On August 10th, Advantage Trailer Rentals took time to volunteer with the Texas Yes Project. They spent about an hour handing out school supplies to elementary students at Henry B. Gonzales Elementary School.
Texas Yes Project is an educational nonprofit organization committed to closing the educational equality gap for students throughout San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, and Austin. Their goal is to provide the supplies and resources that students need to succeed. Along with providing year-round access to literacy, they believe that every student should have access to the necessary tools to have a successful educational journey.
There are several ways that Texas Yes Project makes a lasting impact on the community. Annually, they participate at select Title 1 elementary schools throughout Texas to give free school supply kits (“Box of Dreams”) to kindergarten through 5th grade students. Their “Little Locker Project” is another effort that students, parents, and guardians can utilize to borrow a book or work on arts and crafts throughout the summer. “YES Grants” are another important part of the Texas Yes Project. These grants focus on STEM, innovation, or development of programs related to science and math. Their current grant cycle began on August 1st and continues until September 30, 2022
Advantage employees were excited to partake in some community involvement on Wednesday. School supplies can be hard to come by for some areas. However, with the help of the Texas Yes Project and its volunteers, students can have access to the necessary supplies. As the students were professing their thanks for their goodies, the principal also mentioned that they “appreciate the support from the community and local companies.” Rob Larwood, the San Antonio, and Laredo Operations Manager was handing out some supplies and mentioned how grateful he was to have the opportunity to help the kids in their community.
